This took me about 40 minutes, which is about perfect for me. That’s about how much time I want to spend on a Friday or Saturday puzzle, cause I like to savor that sweet puzzle candy. Yesterday’s 20 minutes, for me, meant it was a tad easy. This was good.
Dear Emma Stone: enjoy the best day of your life, making your NYT puzzle debut (I think) with your *full dang name*. That sort of tribute is usually reserved for such mega-superstars as Al Capp and Ed Asner. Go, girl.
Some great fill here, and nothing that really made me wince. SANDAL TAN was awesome — I have a permanent one in the summer. BUG ZAPPER is fun (except for the bugs, of course).
And I’d say this was a learning puzzle. Things I didn’t know: Donny OSMOND hosted “Pyramid.” Harvard has an all-male GLEE CLUB. A guy named STU Nahan exists. There were other things, too.
All in all, this is just what I look for in a Saturday puzzle. Good stuff, James. You too, Will!
