Something Good: Oh, you know. The Long Stuff. The concessions in this puzzle (of which there are very few) are of the short variety, helping to make the long stuff shine. And even the short stuff I didn’t like was gettable and fairly clued. This is how it should be on the weekend.
A pleasure. Granted, this was even easier than yesterday’s (which was also pretty easy), but a joy to solve nevertheless. Great cluing, colorful fill, 72 words minimizing the need for awkward short fill. Good stuff from a relatively inexperienced constructor.
My brain exploded when I read the clue for 16A (Obama’s favorite character on “The Wire” : OMAR). What the? Where does this information come from?
Oh, of course. Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia, this is information that comes from an article in the Las Vegas Sun from 6 years ago when Obama was still just a candidate. That seems really obscure and almost not worth mentioning/knowing, except that it’s on OMAR Little’s Wikipedia page. This really makes me ponder how much a Wikipedia mention makes something crossword-worthy. (By the way, OMAR is my second-favorite character from “The Wire.” Gotta go with Snoop at #1.)
What else? This is kind of a racy puzzle, what with the DOMINATRIX and the BOSOM and the PEE. Throw a SHOW DOG, ERIK SATIE and a MINICAM into the mix, and you’ve got a pretty wild party going on. Yowza!
Not much more to say. Well-clued, well-filled, pretty easy Saturday. Great job.
p.s. Evan has a new independent puzzle site, Devil Cross. You should probably check it out.
